Founded in 1924 as the Michel Electric Handsaw Company and renamed Skilsaw Inc. in 1926, Skil has become one of the most recognized and powerful brands in the power tool industry. The breakthrough for what Skil has become today came to life in 1928 with the development of the SkilsawÒmodel E circular. This advancement pioneered the use of a die-cast aluminum motor housing and was, in appearance and refinement, defining what would become the bench-mark of portable electric power circular saws, the SkilsawÒmodel 77. And after more than six decades, a No. 77 Skilsaw can be found on virtually every construction site in the country and is recognized as one of the tools that helped build America.

Skil's No. 77 laid the foundation for a product line that now features more than 80 tools that can handle almost any DIY task. Developments and introductions to the ever-increasing variety of hand held electric power tools have led to the extensive line of Skil power tools found in this catalog. Cordless and corded, Skil tools are designed to meet the needs of a demanding market and are manufactured with the commitment to quality and value established with our SkilsawÒcircular saw. The legacy of all Skil power tools is rooted in an idea for cutting sugarcane. This idea, a motorized machete, used a small 2" circular saw blade mounted at the end of a machete and driven through worm gears by an electric motor. The motorized machete, while never successful, gave birth to the portable electric handsaw. The introduction of the first SkilsawÒ circular saw changed the construction industry forever. Now, Skil tools are found in homes and the workplace, performing a seemingly endless variety of tasks. All are bringing the convenience, precision and performance pioneered by our first product.
